  • Cade Cunningham OUT! Regular Season (and Individual Award Candidacy) in Jeopardy
by Joshua Miranda on March 19, 2026 at 5:32 pm

Cade Cunningham, the engine behind the top-seeded Detroit Pistons and one of the brightest stars in the league today, suffered an injury so gruesome that there isn’t even a timeline for his return. The 2025–26 NBA season has been filled with injuries, it almost feels like every NBA All-Star has missed significant time for one unfortunate reason or another. The hope has been that, by the time the playoffs arrive, every team would be healthy and every superstar would have the best possible chance to compete for a title. © David Reginek-Imagn Images What Injury did Cade Cunningham Get Diagnosed With? According to the Detroit Pistons, Cade Cunningham has been diagnosed with a left lung pneumothorax — essentially, a collapsed lung — and will be re-evaluated in two weeks. He suffered the injury during a game against the Washington Wizards while diving for a loose ball, when Tre Johnson fell on his back. Cunningham left the game just 5:20 in and did not return. This was the incident that led to Cade Cunningham’s collapsed lung. Wishing him a speedy recovery ❤️‍🩹 pic.twitter.com/eeejbN8C9B https://t.co/cO0j5RC0Ng— NBA Fantasy Bible (@NBAFantasyBible) March 19, 2026 The Pistons still went on to win that game and remain the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference with a 49–19 record, the third best in the entire league. Cade had already missed seven games earlier this season, all against lottery or play-in teams, and Detroit went 5–2 in his absence. From now until the end of the regular season, the Pistons face only a handful of playoff teams, so their record may not take a significant hit without him. However, there’s no guarantee Cunningham will be available by the start of the NBA playoffs. Based on comparable cases, he could miss as much as the first round before being medically cleared to return. According to Kevin O’Connor, averaging the recovery timelines from the last five instances of this injury suggests Cunningham could miss at least 11 of the Pistons’ final 14 games. CJ McCollum dealt with this injury twice—once in 2023 and again in 2021—missing 12 games over 3.5 weeks and 18 games over six weeks, respectively. Other players, like Terrence Jones in 2015 (six games over two weeks) and Gerald Wallace in 2009 (seven games over three weeks), have also faced similar recoveries. @ Jim Dedmon-Imagn Images What Does this Mean for Cade and the Detroit Pistons? The biggest topic of discussion surrounding this unfortunate injury is Cade Cunningham’s All-NBA and MVP case. The NBA has a rule that requires players to appear in at least 65 of the 82 regular-season games to be eligible for All-NBA honors and major awards. Cade Cunningham has played 61 games so far, just four short of that threshold. But given the timeline of this injury, there’s a real chance he won’t reach the requirement, which would make him ineligible for accolades he very clearly deserves. The 65-game rule was introduced to curb load management, but this season has shown the other side of it. Players like Giannis Antetokounmpo, Stephen Curry, and LeBron James are already out of the running after falling short of the requirement. Meanwhile, Nikola Jokić, Deni Avdija, and Luka Dončić are right on the edge, any missed time could push them below the cutoff. In a worst-case scenario, several of the league’s best players could miss out, leaving the All-NBA teams looking weaker, and arguably less representative, because of this rule. And Cade Cunningham, the best player on the top team in the East, could be left out of what is a very real MVP case. For the Detroit Pistons, heading into the first round of the playoffs without their best player, the engine of their offense and one of the league’s best shot-blocking guards, could significantly raise the chances of a first-round upset. Their guard depth isn’t particularly strong, and without Cade, their entire offensive identity shifts. Prayers up for Cade Cunningham.

  • McNeese vs Vanderbilt Odds, Total, and More for 5 vs 12 March Madness Matchup
by Brian Twining on March 19, 2026 at 5:03 pm

The 2026 Men’s NCAA Tournament moves into high gear today as the Round of 64 officially takes center stage across the country. One of the most anticipated matchups of the afternoon, McNeese vs Vanderbilt, is a classic 12 vs 5 battle, where the Cowboys look to spring an upset on the Commodores in Oklahoma City. Before these two programs square off for a spot in the Round of 32, let’s review the game odds, key players, and more for this high-stakes showdown. McNeese vs Vanderbilt Game Info Date: Thursday, March 19, 2026 Time: 3:15 PM ET Location: Paycom Center | Oklahoma City, OK TV/Streaming: TruTV *Alonzo Adams-Imagn Images McNeese vs Vanderbilt Odds This McNeese vs Vanderbilt 12-vs-5 matchup in Oklahoma City has all the ingredients of a classic March Madness heart-stopper. The Commodores (26-8) are entering the tournament playing some of their best basketball after a deep run in the SEC. They enter the Big Dance with a top-15 offense that can flat-out score. Led by the dynamic duo of Tyler Tanner (19.1 PPG) and Duke Miles (16.5 PPG), the ‘Dores play with a level of polish that usually spells trouble for mid-majors. However, the Cowboys (28-5) are a trendy upset pick for a reason. They lead the nation in forcing turnovers, and if they can lure Vanderbilt into a frantic, physical “track meet” style of game, things could get interesting very quickly at the Paycom Center. Looking at the betting board, oddsmakers are showing plenty of respect to Vanderbilt’s talent. The Commodores are currently 12.5-point favorites, a fairly wide margin for a 12-vs-5 first-round matchup. If you’re looking for a low-scoring defensive struggle, you might be disappointed, as the total is sitting at 150.5 points, suggesting a fairly high-scoring affair. While McNeese is a significant moneyline underdog, many are still leaning towards taking the points with the Cowboys. It’ll come down to whether McNeese’s pressure can rattle a Vanderbilt backcourt that has been rock-solid all season. *William Purnell-Imagn Images McNeese vs Vanderbilt Odds Spread: Vanderbilt -12.5 (-102) Moneyline: McNeese +500 | Vanderbilt -700 Total: 148.5 (Over -115/Under -105) *Odds via DraftKings Sportsbook & current at publication Staying in Control While Betting March Madness Wagering on a high-stakes 12-vs-5 matchup like today’s McNeese vs. Vanderbilt showdown cranks up the intensity, but the real win is walking away with your bankroll intact. With a spot in the Round of 32 on the line in Oklahoma City, it’s easy to let the “March Madness” hype take the wheel. View it as an Admission Fee: Treat your wagers like a ticket to the game at the Paycom Center. Set a firm “entertainment budget” before tip-off and consider it spent the moment you place the bet. Whether the Cowboys cover as 11.5-point underdogs or Vanderbilt shows why they’re a top-15 offensive powerhouse, once that limit is hit, your betting day is over, no overtime required. Keep Your Heart Out of the Parlay: Don’t let Cinderella narratives or a “hunch” about star scorers like Larry Johnson or Tyler Tanner drive your decisions. The best bets are built on cold data, like Vanderbilt’s elite ball security (ranking 10th in turnover percentage) versus McNeese’s relentless pressure (leading the nation in defensive turnover rate). If the logic isn’t there, the bet shouldn’t be either. Monitor Your Momentum: Betting should be a hobby, not a stress test. If you find yourself “chasing” a loss with a desperate second-half play just to break even, it’s time for a timeout. Staying disciplined ensures today’s clash remains a thrilling sports moment rather than a personal crisis. New users must be 21+. Gambling problem? Call 1-800-GAMBLER. Responsible Gaming Resources

  • March Madness Begins! Donovan vs Dosunmu, McClung, Good Ivey News? and Other Bulls Bullets
by Alex Kirschenbaum on March 19, 2026 at 4:53 pm

In a notoriously haphazard effort to belatedly tank their season, our Chicago Bulls made a whopping seven trades heading into last month’s deadline. After an encouraging 0-11 run in February, the team has frustratingly righted the ship, going 4-5 in March. Granted, they lost to the Toronto Raptors by 30 points on Wednesday night and face the 42-27 Cleveland Cavaliers on Thursday, so maybe things are turning around? The Bulls got eight second-draft picks and one second-round pick swap back, plus a long-term commitment to… Rob Dillingham, for beloved pieces like Ayo Dosunmu and Coby White. And they haven’t been able to effectively maximize their future draft chances thanks to some quality Donovan coaching. Even though the Bulls are haplessly continuing their mediocrity in the “treading water” part of the NBA standings, we’ll have you covered with draft-related coverage throughout March Madness. But… speaking of madness… Alonzo Adams-Imagn Images Bulls Bullets — March 19, 2026 Now-Minnesota Timberwolves reserve Dosunmu has been making headlines for claiming that head coach Billy Donovan “really prohibited” mid-range shots in his offense. Here's Ayo Dosunmu talking about what he's reading in pick and roll coverage and why he's taking more midrange shots in Minnesota after those were prohibited in Chicago."In Chicago, midrange shots was really prohibited. It was 3s and layups, no midrange shots unless it's the… pic.twitter.com/LtGKsRjVqN— Dane Moore (@DaneMooreNBA) March 18, 2026 Per CHGO Sports’ Will Gottlieb, Donovan has refuted Dosunmu’s claim, suggesting that he essentially sought to empower players — and that when they were elite midrange scorers a la DeMar DeRozan, they were enabled in that terrain. “If I was opposed to the midrange, I would have been telling DeMar not to take them. You’ve got to play to the player’s strengths. I’m a believer in that,” Donovan said. “The first part of the shot clock you certainly want to try and get something downhill to the basket, and generally what happens is when the ball gets into the paint and the ball gets sprayed out that’s when the 3’s are going to go up.” Dane Moore asked Minnesota head coach Chris Finch about Ayo’s claim that the Timberwolves are more amenable to midrange scoring than the Bulls were. Finch seemed to offer plenty of caveats to that concept. Asked Chris Finch about Ayo Dosunmu saying last night that Chicago had different parameters around shot selection than Minnesota does, and the concept of different rosters justifying different shot locations."Sounds like my pupil is failing class here," Finch joked. https://t.co/HApgaQp0If pic.twitter.com/BXFZdUC2so— Dane Moore (@DaneMooreNBA) March 18, 2026 “Sounds like my pupil is failing class here if he’s thinking that,” Finch chuckled. “If you look at most of Ayo’s midrange shots, a lot of them come at the end of the shot clock, and they’re often self-created. That’s the place that you want to or have to be able to use them. So I don’t think he’s there searching, but I think he’s also got the mechanics for a good paint pull-up game. So we’ve never been zero-tolerance, it’s just who takes [midrange shots] and who doesn’t.” Former 17-year NBA vet Eddie Johnson, now a Phoenix Suns commentator, wrote on his official X account that the idea Donovan stopped most players from taking midrange jumpers “makes me wanna throw up.” According to Gottlieb, Donovan told reporters that the pain in new trade acquisition Jaden Ivey’s left knee has subsided. Ivey has only appeared in four games for the Bulls, and has been fully shut down since Feb. 11. Donovan indicates that Ivey is set to join Chicago on the club’s next road trip, with an eye on playing. Per the Windy City Bulls, two-way Bulls guard Mac McClung now ranks second all-time among G League scorers — including the Tip-Off Tournament preseason, regular season and playoffs. The three-time Slam Dunk Contest champ, 27, is enjoying a banner run through the G League this regular season, averaging 30.8 points on .512/.366/.774 shooting splits, 8.1 assists, 3.3 rebounds, 1.3 steals and 0.8 blocks. He’s appeared in just one NBA regular season contest with Chicago so far this year, trapped behind a backcourt logjam. In what could be a blow to the Bulls’ Tankathon rank, 10-time All-Star Milwaukee Bucks power forward Giannis Antetokounmpo is allegedly at odds with his own team over his status for the rest of the year. Shams Charania of ESPN reports that Milwaukee wants Antetokounmpo to sit out for the rest of the year, but Antetokounmpo is angling to return to the court. The two-time league MVP will miss at least the next week a left knee hyperextension and bone bruise. Injuries have limited Antetokounmpo to just 36 contests this season. Should he sit out the rest of the way, the horrible Bucks will likely lap the Bulls when it comes to losses. The 28-40 Bucks are currently just 0.5 games better than the Bulls by record but a whopping 6.5 contests behind the 35-34 Charlotte Hornets for a shot at the East’s No. 10 seed. The Miami Heat are expected to waive embattled point guard Terry Rozier’s expiring $26.6 million contract later this month, reports The Miami Herald‘s Anthony Chiang. Rozier has been away from the team since an Oct. 23 arrest related to illicit gambling shenanigans. • A Little More on Daniel Palencia’s Big WBC Moment
by Brett Taylor on March 19, 2026 at 4:46 pm

Short of Team USA winning it on a walk-off Pete Crow-Armstrong homer, I’m not sure I – as a Cubs fan and a baseball fan – could’ve had a better time watching the World Baseball Classic conclude. To see Cubs closer Daniel Palencia on the mound, pitching against a stacked lineup, with the weight of his country on his shoulders in a one-run game? And to see him dominate, again? And to see the emotion overtake him and his teammates? It was very, very cool. A little more on all that … Daniel Palencia wasn’t going to pitch for Team Venezuela in the WBC Final unless it was a save situation (because it would be back-to-backs, and three times in four days), but that’s exactly what he got a chance to do. “The usage is more than anybody would like at this time of year,” Cubs manager Craig Counsell said of Palencia in the WBC, per The Athletic. “But the moment was also a moment that you want someone to experience. So if it was going to be usage that we weren’t comfortable with, we wanted to make sure it was in the moment that every player should get to experience.” Spot on. And now you just hope to be able to give him an appropriate bit of rest and re-ramp-up to the regular season, without too much hard usage in the cold early on. It was only five innings total, but you’re talking about playoff-caliber exertion right out of the gate – it’s fundamentally different for a guy’s arm than throwing five innings of carefully-calibrated, completely-meaningless Cactus League games. It wouldn’t surprise me to see the Cubs spread out his appearances a little more than usual in April and even May, with an eye toward keeping him as fresh as possible for as long as possible. Moreover, I would be surprised if Palencia appears in more than one more Cactus League game, instead favoring work on the side and the back fields in advance of Opening Day. It’s just a very unique situation, and he’s critically important to that bullpen. All that said, even if having done this means that Palencia throws a touch fewer innings for the Cubs this year, or even has to miss a little time for some in-season rest, it could well still have been worth it to the Cubs. Consider the value that comes with treating your players this well. Consider the valuable experience Palencia just got, on the biggest stage he’s ever been on, with the most pressure attached. You cannot artificially recreate that, and now he may be all the more unfazed when the biggest spots arrive this year and beyond. Another view of Palencia closing out the win and falling to his knees in triumph: Daniel Palencia closing out the WBC pic.twitter.com/fHkbsWcKCt— Rob Friedman (@PitchingNinja) March 18, 2026
